Nestor had quite a life! In his youth he was an Argonaut, he fought centaurs, he took part in the Calydonian boar hunt.

He was 110 years old at the time of the Iliad. He was the oldest Greek leader. His son Antilochus was the youngest Greek leader. Nestor must have fathered him in his 80s!

And in this painting Nestor is serving as Diomedes' charioteer. And the horses are the ones Diomedes earlier had taken from Aeneas. Decendents of the pair Jove gave Tros in exchange for Ganymede.

He is represented by the flame / thunderbolt in front of the horses. I think at time he was nearby at Mt Ida

In book XXI Achilles fights the river Scamander. He runs but the river
keeps coming after him, towering over him with its waves.

Now, that would be difficult to paint.

Some have tried to portray it

Later the river and Vulcan fight and I would have thought that water would have prevailed over fire.
